Welcome back to the fall (2024) program of the Intersubjectivity Study Group. This year the group will usually meet of the second Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM-11:30 AM. This semester, the topic is Forms of Intersubjectivity in Infant Research and Adult Treatment.

Beginning with a Systems View of Forms of Intersubjectivity, we will study the comparison of interactions involving mother and infant with analyst and patient by Beatrice Beebe’s research group. Theorists studied and compared are Jacobs, Ogden, Benjamin, and Stolorow.

The October paper focuses more closely on Benjamin’s developmental approach to the analytic third and her view of “how the study of infancy, in particular the mother and infant relationship, led to an intersubjective psychoanalysis in which mutuality or mutual recognition play a central role.”

In November, we will consider Jay Greenberg’s idea of the Interactive Matrix. “The interactive matrix is shaped from moment to moment in every treatment by the personal  characteristics of the patient and analysand.”
